Please note that the board doesn't make recommendations for schools or otherwise rank them but only issues licenses when schools meet the licensing requirements and conducts periodic inspections and audits to ensure compliance with board regulations. The board provides school contact information only for your convenience and not to make assurances about the accuracy of schools' marketing.
School email list
We maintain an email list for communication with school managers, administrators, and other staff members. Anyone can join the list, but the communications are intended for currently licensed schools.
The board has prepared a manual to help schools comply with state regulations and to assist individuals who are opening a school. Please note that some portions of the manual may become outdated as regulations change, and the board will update the manual periodically.
The board's responsibility is to enforce minimum standards for schools. However, there may be best practices and other forms of assistance for schools beyond the State's minimum requirements. For example, schools may need assistance with requirements from other government agencies (e.g., tax or labor requirements). There is a barber association that may be able to offer additional assistance to schools or individuals who wish to open a school. (Please note that the board doesn't require schools to interact with the barber association, and this information is just to guide schools to assistance outside of the board's jurisdiction.)
The board recently began holding periodic Q&A sessions for barber schools. Notices and information about joining go out over the email list (see above). The meetings take place as webinars, and we post the videos below for individuals who are unable to attend. Please contact us if you have questions about the discussion in the videos.
