Barber shops and schools are inspected by the board's inspectors. For a list of inspector assignments by county, please click here. Routine inspections are conducted according to a random selection of shops. Each shop has an equal chance of being included in the group of shops that will be inspected. Inspections are unannounced and are designed to check for sanitation, proper licensure, and compliance with board regulations.
Inspectors also conduct investigations, typically based on complaints from the public. To learn how to file a complaint, please click here.
Inspectors are supervised by the executive director and are held to high standards of ethics. They are trained in investigative techniques and are familiar with board regulations. Each of the board inspectors is a licensed barber and instructor.
Inspection reports are public record. Each shop will have a sanitary grade that shows the shop's score and date of inspections. If you have questions about shop inspections, please contact the board staff.
